Year 4 2019 - 2020

Mr Thornton

Mrs Midgley

This term Year 4 have been learning all about World War 2. During this time children have covered events in the War such as the declaration of War by Neville Chamberlain, Hitler's Germany invasion of Poland, Allied forces, Italy's decision to change its mind who it was fighting for and the Allied war with Japan. Children also experienced and empatised with children of the War and were evacuees for the day on our school trip to East Lancashire Railway, visiting museums with important artefacts.

As a final outcome, children wanted to create their own classroom museum. All children had a role to play in the museum as tour guides, curators, directors, designers and cafeteria staff. Children sold cakes and goods to parents and took donations to be donated to Broughton House. Throughout the process, children made their own models and artefacts for display. Children made WW2 fighter planes, tanks, gas masks, medals, fact files and air raid shelters. Some children acted as educators and gave a presentation before the class sung two war classics by Vera Lynn.

It was an enjoyable day for all the children of St George's and parents who visited the museum.
